About the residency

Aims and Objectives

The Trélex Esp'Asse residency was set up as part of collaboration between The Trélex Residency  and La Fondation Esp'Asse. It builds on artist Nina Rodin's Trélex model of providing a supportive environment for artists to live and work together, to give each other advice and stimulate their practices. The emphasis is on creative freedom: artists do not have to write any project proposal ahead of coming or commit to any particular output. What is now known as 'The Trélex Model' of residencies is one of free residencies, open to all, advertised only by word of mouth, with no application fees or forms, based on trust.

Discussion, exchange and collaboration

The Trélex Esp'Asse residency has the facility to welcome six resident artists at a time and encourages collaboration so if, for example, you are a visual artist, you might invite a musician or a writer you wish to collaborate with to join you for part of your stay. We encourage artists to bring what inspires and interests them to share with the group.

The studio and other residency facilities are shared resources and if anything makes this experience unique it is perhaps the emphasis on discussion, exchange and collaboration. It is best to come with an open mind towards talking about and questioning your own work and some interest in what the other artists in the studio are doing.
